I have just finished the 4th book in the Dragoncrown War Cycle. The story begins in the prequel and ends in the Grand Crusade. I loved these books, they were fast moving, kept my instrest in the characters, and had a wonderful story of good vs evil. If you like epic fantasy, I suggest reading these. He also has written many Star Wars books as well, I have never read one of those. Have a nice day all.

Well I didn't know he was writing Fantasy, but I have read some of his Star Wars books. I can't say they were great, but they definately were a good read, very nice if you have some time to kill or just need a book. I'll have to check out some of his new stuff.

Of all the Star Wars books authors Stackpole is prolly the best, and don't say Salvatore. Stackpole rapes the shit out of Salvatore. All Salvatore can write are awesome fight scenes. His narraration, description, and most importanty: character developing skills blow chunks. Makes me feel like Ben Stein wrote the book... until another action scene comes in.

Wow, I wasn't even aware R.A. was writing SW novels. The Drow stuff is good if you ask me - Salvatore's character development is somewhat weak in the first two books or so, but blossoms beyond that IMHO.

I've heard of Stackpole, in fact, but always heard him compared negatively to Timothy Zahn. Can anyone offer an opinion there?

Well Zahn created what's generally considered the best SW trilogy of books ever. The Thrawn trilogy. He then went on and made a two part sequel to that. He wrote them good, through in some nice plot twists, and Thrawn was just a tactical genius and pretty much a badass too, and an alien. Still, I liked Stackpole's X-Wing series. Think the two both wrote some of the better SW books, with Zahn getting alot more praise thanks to how well he did his trilogy.

I think Stackpole write very fast moving, instering books with great storyline and characters. I also Love Salvatore, between my brother and myself we have all of his books, I am a great fan of his forgotten realms series. Drizzt is awesome. I am also a fan of Lovecraft and I really enjoy the Dragon Riders of Pern by Anne Mccaffery. Hell I work in a bookstore.

SDF-1
He wrote the Blood of Kerensky trilogy in the Battletech series. Awesome books.

Actually I didn't like Blood of Kerinski much. I got too bored and then stopped reading. Most of my favorite FASA novels were written by Loren L. Coleman, who I think made some very likeable characters. Plus he chose to use most of my favorite mechs. His novels about the strange relationship between the House Liao and its little "sister," the St. Ives Compact, are very interesting.
I liked Stackpole's Warrior series though.
