A few months back I stumbled across a book on Amazon.com called The Madness Season. It got a very respectable 5 out of 5 stars and the story line seemed very interesting. I had seen the cover art before as I am a huge fan of Michael Whelan and have several of his art books, but I had never read it before. In the mood for some good SciFi I decided to give it a try, and much to my surprise it wound up being one of my favorite books ever. It now resides proudly on the top shelf of my book case. I highly recommend it for those of you looking for something different that will grab your attention and not let go. Great plot, great alien races, great characters, and a great way to weave them all into one great story.
In a previous post I had asked for fantasy recommendations. I found myself once again stalking the local Barnes and Nobles and came across another cover that I recogized and by the same author. That being Black Sun Rising. I can't believe it's taken me this long to discover this C.S. Friedman as she is an incredible writer. This book, although taking place in the future is much more fantasy than SciFi and has sucked me in completely. It should keep me busy for a time as well as it is a trilogy and all the books weigh in at 500+ pages each.
Anyway, I just wanted to share this discovery I've recently made and encourage those of you who are searching for something great to look her up at your local bookstore if you haven't done so in the past already. You won't regret it.
