++ Adult Swim Wants Saturday Nights - Cartoon Network panellists at Anime Weekend Atlanta
indicated that they were interested in taking back Saturday nights for Adult Swim, most
likely as a venue for anime movies. Ratings for the third quarter of 2003 demonstrated the
ratings power of the growing Sunday-through-Thursday Adult Swim audience. The Adult Swim
block led all cable channels in delivery of adults 18-34, adults 18-24, men 18-34, and men
18-24 during its time period. As long as the Adult Swim block continues to garner such
strong ratings, expansion, both in terms of additional days and late night hours, remains
a distinct possibility.
++ More Inu Yasha on Adult Swim - The panellists at AWA also announced that the Cartoon
Network will show 52 new episodes of Inu-Yasha (Episodes 53-104) during 2004. The major
commitment to Inu-Yasha demonstrates the confidence the Cartoon Network has in the property.
When discussing anime movies for Saturday night showings, Inu-Yasha was also the first
property mentioned.
++ Ai Yori Aoshi Sequel Airing In Japan - One of the surprise anime hits of 2003 in the U.S.
is Ai Yori Aoshi (no real surprise to us though -_^), a romantic comedy steeped in Japanese
courtship traditions, which has been extremely successful in Japan where heroine Aoi Sakuraba
is one of the most popular female anime characters. Ai Yori Aosho goes back on the air this
month in Japan with a new season entitled Ai Yori Aoshi Enishi. The second series takes place
a year after the end of the first series and apparently is 12 episodes long.

++ Bandai Licenses A Modern 'Yojimbo' - At the recently concluded Anime Weekend Atlanta
Bandai Entertainment announced the acquisition of Kaze No Yojimbo, a 25-episode anime series,
which is loosely based on Akira Kurosawa's 1961 masterpiece Yojimbo.
++ Yu-Gi-Oh! Movie Set for August Release - According to Yahoo Movies, Warner Brothers has
acquired the rights to the first Yu-Gi-Oh! feature film and plans to release it on August 13,
2004. The film, which is currently in the final stages of production in Japan. Unlike many
current animated features, the new Yu-Gi-Oh! film will be done in the traditional 2-D Japanese
anime fashion, and not computer-generated. Warners plans to tie the feature very closely to
the popular Yu-Gi-Oh! CCG from Upper Deck. Everyone who buys a ticket to the film will receive
a promotional card from the Yu-Gi-Oh! CCG.
++ TechTV grabs Geneshaft, Banner of the Stars - TechTV has acquired the broadcast rights to
Geneshaft and the first Banner of the Stars series. Banner is scheduled to begin Tuesday,
November 4th, and Geneshaft will premiere at a date to be determined.
++ Square Enix announces a Final Fantasy VII Movie - Square Enix has announced that it will be
re-visiting Final Fantasy VII in the form of a CG movie that takes place some two years after
the end of the game. The film is however expected to depart from the more traditional anime
style look of the game and feature more photo-realistic art as seen in Final Fantasy X. The
movie, named "Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children" is due out in 2004, some images can be

++ Pioneer Entertainment Makes a Name Change - Due to acquisition by Dentsu Inc., Pioneer
Entertainment (both music and anime divisions) will be changing their name to "Geneon". The
name change will take effect October 1st, though it's not yet known when the Geneon label
will appear on packaging. Currently we do not anticipate any other changes besides the name,
but we'll keep you posted!
