Did this at work in between meeting my quota of 30 repaired PC's a day using some shit that was laying around. I was almost desperate enough to use some Arby's sauce for the reds, but I'm glad I waited - because I would have surely eaten my hand had I covered it in delicious Arby's sauce.

Anyhow, just trying to get a handle on Groening's drawing style.

I'm going to have some fun stick Savage Dragon in the Futurama universe for a pin-up. Oh ho ho!

Well, I'm by no means a drawing expert, but I do watch a LOT of The Simpsons and Futurama. Mostly it looks pretty good except for a couple of spots on the face don't look quite right. The main thing is that there's invariably some kind of curvature of the upper lip on Groenig's characters and there doesn't seem to be any here... Which makes his head look awfully, um, cylindrical. Or penis-like, if you prefer, and from the discussions you've been having with Kannon I can only assume that you do.

Hmmm... A green penis with a ridge on top... That some new sort of fetish or something? Anyway, yes the upper lip needs to be alot less angular and poke out more. That and the chin juts out from the neck just below, and curves up into, the lower lip. That and everyone in Groening's art has a bad slump. Other than those 2 things, it's perfect.

Edit - Oh, and his noses are generally alot more round than that, and usually stick out alot more.

Colors arent vivid enough I think.

I'm partially color blind, what's your excuse?

Besides - I sampled the color pallet directly from source images. Dragon covers and Futurama screens. So it's not my stupid god damned eyes, or brain - or whatever the fuck renders one blind to portions of the color spectrum.

That's a mighty fine Zoidberg you have there my friend, mighty fine. I have a couple of nits to pick with the dragon though, just in case you happen to be an obsessive freak like me:
1) Dragon has a bad case of cartoon fingers on his right hand. In all of his animated series, Groenig's characters' fingers were always distinctly jointed, albeit undetailed
2) I still think he needs more overbite. It just doesn't like right when he has essentially none. You can underdo it but there has to be some sort of overbitage or it's just not Groenig. Right now his face looks essentially flat.
Aside from those minor quibbles it's looking pretty great though.

I dunno about the whole overbite thing. It seems to vary from character to character in Futurama. I based Dragon off of Zap Branigan since they both have similar body types. McBane from the Simpsons is too curvy.

I'm not going to be doing much Groening apeing in the future, so I'm not too worried if I'm not the perfect duplicator.

Though Leela pr0n is tempting - but that raised a whole new set of questions. Namely what do Groening dongs look like? tongue.gif

Oh, do that. I'm sure you'll figure something out.
