Kobel
Are you a bot?
wongumfie
Well, it is not selling anything ... so I am going with 'yes'.
Grimlok
Damn, Skype. This kind of publicity sucks.
Artdeux
Why isn't there an auto-ban/auto-lock to any post that has that specific smiley? I seriously haven't seen any topic that has it having the OP being a human.

Pretty soon I can Skype with my PSP, that's cool. Maybe get a GPS for it, too, if Sony's CES page is to be believed. I've heard their next peripheral just turns it into an iPhone.
Kobel
Well, seems like there's convo in this thread at any rate, so I'ma just dump it into GD in case people want to continue this line of conversation

Hmm, probably only works with the official firmwares, though. Which would suck. I don't know why they don't embrace homebrew even a little bit. Right now, they just look at what homebrew is doing, try to block it with updates, and then add the homebrew features in the next update. Lame.
Kurenai
God, homebrew complaints.

Anyone here actually use Skype? I understand that Grandcentral offers some kind of combo package with it. It's my hope to get Skype at some point in the near future, but I wonder what the service is like.
Millefune
Oxana uses Skype to talk to her friends back in Korea. She says it's very good, and even more clear than a US to US cell phone call. And it's free!
Duneman
Skype works as it is intended to. The only restriction is having Internet access that can support the voice transfer.
Drakol
Yeah, Skype worked wonders while I was in the land of the short and crazy tongue.gif

BTW, there was a GPS device that you could attach onto your PSP that came out in Japan. Did that come out here as well?
Daniel
Not that I know of.

Just saw this today: Skype on PSP unsure.gif

That's the one Sony's bringing over now. Most of the peripherals in Japan (GPS, TV tuner, camera, etc.) haven't come over here as of yet, though in the case of at least the TV tuner it's because the infrastructure just isn't available in the States to support it. I think the GPS is the first to make it over. I'd totally buy it.

I want the camera, too; I never carry a digicam, even when I actually, you know, owned one, but my PSP is usually with me when I go places. As of now all I can really use is my phone.

I use Skype, but only the free stuff (no landline calls), mostly for vidchat to/from NZ to UK, instant messaging, and conference-call chat for gaming (4-6 people normally) - and all works pretty well.

If trying to game at the same time it does add an overhead, bigger apparently than a dedicated client-server method like teamspeak(?), vidchat has a delay - but then it is 18,000km each way - but generally all its services are very good. I believe it's more popular in Europe than other competitors, so is often good to have to speak to "foreigners" who may not know of yank-centric alternatives.

Looking forwards to this on the PSP, as it means i wont need a laptop to have it running, but concerned about rumours it only works on the new Slim PSPs, official firmware only, and more worryingly that it will only be for American PSP owners. Surely it will get hacked though, and as my (fat) PSP is a yank one i have hopes for the future smile.gif

I use skype for when I'm playing online with friends who don't have TS or Vent.

Just some quick info:
