GA and I hatched this scheme some months ago on NCD, a follow-up to the previous Ohio deal that I wasn't able to attend. Except I haven't heard a peep out of anyone this time around while there was lots of support for the first. Can anyone do this?
Magus
Sep 4 2003, 07:49 AM
Sounds like a plan to me. Just make sure a date and place are worked out well in advance so that I can plan accordingly. I'll be sure to bring Sandman along as well. Now you have to work on Ky Kiske. Speaking of GA, anyone heard or seen him?

http://www.sugoicon.org/location.html... that's the con location, dates are Nov 21/22. I'm going with some people who are actually interested in the convention as well, so I might buy a pass and disappear into that now and again. But 95% of my motivation is playing AC.

Covington, KY?
How far away from Louisville Is that?
If it's not too far, i may actually be able to go!

Is AC something that they are hosting at the convention, or is this just where you are coincidentally holding the event?

Co-incidentally. Though if there's a convention-run tournament we should all participate and own the con-goers with some scary black ACs.

Wow, it'd take me only an hour and 40 some minutes.
That's much shorter than the 5 hour nightmare of driving to chicago (where my attended tourny was).
This forces me to look into cost expenses, since i'm thinking of going.
Good thing this is in November.
Does anyone know the range of cost?
I KNOW i'm not staying at the marriott. 140 some bucks a night is insane.

Share a room? Split 4 ways it's only $35.
EDIT... hour and a half drive? Why get a hotel room? You could crash at home and just pay gas.
Daniel
Sep 5 2003, 01:02 PM
lol, i didn't even think of that.
I could just drive and come back home *smacks forhead*.

Dag nabbit. I'd really like to go to this, but I'm having trouble coordinating a number of issues (transportation, availability, finances...). Its a shame, since this could really be a lot of fun.
What's the latest I'd need to confirm whether or not I'm able to go?

Hmmm.... the hotel looks pricey, but that's not a problem, it also looks nice. I think that, if I can convince 'true into going, we will be able to make it, considering I am resident shotgun rider and navigator. Hmmmm... I remember how much fun that Ohio run was back in april. I'll see if I can't incur some of the costs of 'true and I's trip, if we can make it.

Yeah, there is no way I can do this before the Holidays. If it was after New Years, it would be a lot more realistic for me.

I cannot do anything at the ends of months. That is unquestionably out for me. My current job is accounting, and one of the conditions of employment is that, at month end, all employes work (paid) overtime until all accounts' data is keyed, reviewed, and settled. No vacation time is permitted during the last 3 days of a month.
Other than that, I'll keep checking and see what dates are proposed.

1337: Since contacting you via Jon is near impossible, I figured I'd cave and register. I'd be willing to look into meeting you at whatever the heck Con this is. I just need to see how my credit card bill is, and how much free money I have.
The theory last time, was to register and make the fee back with interest by drawing nudie pictures and otherwise pandering to the hordes which I should be shooting, but instead I'll settle for fleecing them for their cash.
I fear the only way we'll get Ky Kiske to make another Ohio appearance is to publicize our next gathering as Masters of California 4.

I find the entry fee off putting.
I don't care about prize money, and I don't want complimentary pizza and soda. Prizes are pointless. Playing against other skilled AC gamers is incentive enough.
For your next outing, I'd suggest a more social atmosphere.
On second thought, just put in an appearance at whatever AC gathering we hold next year and check out what three days of linked AC play and watching people like Ky and Adamantrue go, "
Blip! Boop! Blip bilp boop!" (
translated from intensive AC geek lexicon) to make your head spin.
Perhaps we can even manage to organize a tournament this time, instead of just shooting each other in the face until the wee hours of the morning.

I also want to have additional gaming rigs for Soul Calibur 2, Virtua Fighter 4 Evolution, War of the Monsters, and whatever else is current and fun for multiple players on the PS2.
What's sick is I'm just now realizing that I've been playing this game for five years, and all the little kids who couldn't get their mommy and daddy to drive them around previously are finally old enough to organize their own shindigs. It's alarming, watching people grow up via a common video game. :X
Peace,
Greg

Sep 26 2003, 01:55 PM
You're on for some Soul Calibur 2, GA?
I thought you considered it to be the fighting-game equivalent of weaksauce. Paul and I are both steeped in SC2 at this point and he's itching for someone else to play.
Ganesha
Sep 26 2003, 02:15 PM
I'll play SC2, but I make no promises.
I do believe the game is total weaksauce, and the only thing that made it interesting when I was testing it at arcades was playing against people, or their ghosts in Conquest Mode. SC2 single player is such a joke it's ridiculous. VF4e owns it six ways 'til Sunday for half the price.

I've given up on Weapon Master Mode. I just don't care about unlocking the weapons. All they do is make my poke, poke, poke game against the CPU easier or more difficult. Either way, they don't encourage different styles of play. It just prolongs the inevitable. I also don't care to play since there's no delicious CG endings to unlock, and I really don't care to unlock more rubbish in the menu. I swear, Namco are the kings of filler unlocking.
You beat Arcade Mode!
You have unlocked a new feature!
You can now press the Start Button at the main menu!
You beat Taki under some absurd condition!
You have unlocked a new feature!
You can now move Up or Down at the main menu!
You inserted the Soul Calibur 2 game disk!
You have unlocked a new feature!
You can press Power on your Playstation 2 to turn the console off!
OMG!
How about allowing me to unlock some mode which makes the game fun, or maybe even an exhaustive training mode, like the one found in VF4e, which would allow me to improve my Raphael game by showing me expert combos and such. Is that too much to ask? Uggggghhhhhhh. . . I swear, all the time spent from arcade to home release was just wasted getting the paperwork in order so they could use that spandex fetishist Spawn in the game. :X
No doubt my Raphael can use a lot of practice over the monotonous poke, poke, poke pattern I use to defeat 99% of CPU opponents.
It goes without saying that fighting games are better with human opponents, but AM2 managed to make the first fighting game since, oh, I dunno - SF2 that is fun to play at home.
Peace,
G.A

Ehh, well to each his own. I think the prizes are just more incentive to play harder and prove who's best. And if you think that it's not social, well, i dunno about you but i think 13 hours is plenty of time to meet other people. But like I said, to each is own.
Anyway, next time you do hold a gathering, I'm definitely interested, though.
BTW, i'd own you all in SC2:) hehe *maybe this is true, maybe not,* but i get whooped in VF.. my akira skills are rustier than a two dollar whore.

13 hours? Is this the short bus tournament, or what?

Anyhow, if a person could just walk in for some free play, outside of the tournament, and not partake of the free pizza and soft drinks, I'd be inclined to come down there and bring some friends.
I could also get some SC2 practice in and show you some of Wolf's keen new ground throws in VF4e.

And I thought we'd all grown out of talking unsubstantiated trash on the Internet.

Well, me and some friends regularly go up to Cleveland and spend all day playin' AC and SC2 so if your interested, you're more than welcome to come up... just let us know when, we can always accommodate more. Unfortunately, i'd rather not have stragglers at the tournament though.

Guys, you don't have to call a get-together "Master of Someplace (number)" to get me to attend. You do have to schedule it at some time which will permit my attendance due to job responsibilities! (This means no dates at the end of a month.)
Just informatively, meaning no offense to any players in CA, MA, or elsewhere, I will definitely not be making it to this coming MOC. I have utterly no - absolute zero - desire to fly 3,000 miles to lose at a version of the game I essentially deplore. Please see my signature for details.

It's possible, dude, anything is possible. I'd have to plan ahead and see if I'd have any Vacation time by whatever point in the year you're thinking of, and clear it with my wife.
VA would probably be a pretty intimidating drive, on the order of 10-12 hours, so I'd probably have to fly. I have a $200 coupon that's still good. I'm always interested in meeting players and having a jam session, just let me know more.

David, it's not a link. It's actually me kind of good-naturedly ribbing Shaun (Duneman), and the rest of the RNNC. Shaun used to say the same thing about AC3 versus AA ("AC3 sucks! I want SL!").
SL doesn't really suck. It has a few parts which suck. Other than that it's the best AC game yet.
