FLCL is not for every one because not every one will get it. I've been watching anime for quite some time now and FLCL is the best short series anime (Its only 6 episodes) I've ever seen. The story is well written. The music is, in my oppinion, some of the best music in anime, second only to the cowboy bebop soundtracks.

its good I dont see how its not easy to understand, it has decent dubs (even the adult swim version), the second manga has been out for a while anyway... I'll give it credit I am no fan of comedy based anime, but this one is really good, not to mention the place were the whatyoumacallit brothers came up with the idea to use bullet time in their matrix movies.... the evil brothers didnt even give it credit just mentioned "we got the idea from a certain anime"... lousy filmakers....

Man, I miss the good ol' days when only cool people knew about FLCL. Now all the Cartoon Network kiddies know about it. Oh well. The increased exposure is kinda cool too.

The same could be said about Anime in general. Once Toonami came out with DBZ, it was heralded as the best fucking anime around...even though people who said that never bothered to check out other anime out there.
And I doubt being on for 1 good series, 1 pretty good series, and 1 shit series qualifies as being DA B3ST AROUND!!!1111

DBZ was the first series that popularity ever ruined for me.
I used to watch it when I was little on saturday mornings, when people still "got sent to the next dimention." I watched the fansubs and knew all the proper terms and translations of names and attacks, and I read about what happened far into the series, because I thought it was cool and nobody else knew/gave a damn about it.
Now I can't stand to watch it. I've had the media shove Son Gokous phallus down my throat for so long that the whole series is a bore now.

I love FLCL. Yet paying $70 for 6 episodes seems a little much. Atleast I have the memories.

I can see your objection there, but since I got them for $15 a pop, I'm not complaining.

I'll look into this. I read some of it but I didn't like the art style. Considering I read Araki's stuff, this is quite unusual.

Whee haw, thread necromancy. I didn't want to start a new thread on this when this one was conveniently located one page down and 2 years ago. I just got the DVDs for this for Christmas, and I'd forgotten just how GODDAMN GOOD this show is. I'm pretty certain I like it better than any other anime series I've ever seen, and even more than at least most of my favorite movies. Also, I have a hard time mentioning how much I love FLCL without mentioning how much I hated Excel Saga. Excel Saga is something like what FLCL would be if you stripped out all of the symbolism, character development, and brilliant art design as well as about half of the humor. It's a shadow of a pale imitation.
That said, anyone who hasn't seen FLCL should WATCH THAT SHIT. Even if you have a hard time relating to the weirdness of it, it has some of the best written characters and most solid action sequences and animation of anything I've ever seen. I don't think there's any excuse to not enjoy it. After watching it this most recent time, I've come to the realization that FLCL is one of those rare things which I could watch over and over again without getting tired of. I haven't encountered any of those since my brain developed past the domain of early childhood obsessive consumption. Anyway, I just had to get that out there.

- FLCL can be found in Real Player format. Not too bad actualy quality either.
- If you dislike what they did to DBZ, I'm waiting to see if they do worse to Bleach (they whom search for net DL importation of anime know Bleach, and should be up to EP61 or so by now).
PS - Pretz OWN...

I remember a quote I saw in someone's sig a long time ago:
"Watching FLCL is like having sex in the dark. You're not too sure what just happened, but you're pretty sure you liked it."

Actually, by the second or third time you watch it it makes a pretty fair amount of sense, it's just that the execution is so bizarre and the concepts are so outlandish it's difficult to understand much the first time through. I'd definitely agree the first watching is like that though

LOL, I was like WTF - Morris, MacLeod, and Saturn9 posting out nowhere and then I saw the 2003 date! Someone should send Morris, Sandman, and Magus a telegram or something...
And back to our regularly scheduled program where the nurse will "make it feel all better

FLCL does rock massively! Blessedly, the DVDs made it to my place for Christmas too
Kobel. Sweet, right! The artwork is beautiful, the insanity genius, the music rockin' (it is a rock and roll anime after all), the character development touching, and I'd venture to say that the comedy is timeless in the fashion of Monty Python Holy Grail (or will be once I finish inflicting this masterpiece on as many people as I can).
Oh, and for the record, yes, she did stick her tounge in

Okay, so if I was interested in this stuff, what on
this page should I really get? I'll pass on the graphic novel, but should I go for the collection or get the singles? Collection seems like a slightly better buy, which you'd expect.

Ehm, pretty much if you know that you want it then get the collection, if you aren't sure then get the individual DVDs. If you see it and you like the music, get the soundtracks. What exactly do you want advice on here?

Also, as far as I can tell, it doesn't look like that's any kind of special package, just a bundle deal for the three DVDs. So it's just like buying all 3 DVDs except marginally cheaper(about $4). Pretty straightforward.

I'm half Jewish so $4.00 is quite significant to me, thank you.

I guess the only way to know if I like it is to try and watch some snippets somewhere... I'm sure they're around if I look hard enough.

You can probably find a torrent of the series without too much trouble. All I'd ask is that if you DO end up liking it you shell out for the DVDs

People bitch about piracy, but IMO try before you buy is a perfectly fine policy.

Funny you should say that... if the product is commercially available in the US I usually do that (pay for the actual product). Good policy IMO.
TY for the link. I'll try and check it out over the weekend.

Jon, check out dvdpacific.com as I have been very happy with them. They're asking $18/volume + reasonable shipping. The prices look to be cheaper than bargainanime.com (even if you get the box set).

Ummm, a little late here, I know... But if you don't mind not getting the "official" packaging, and possibly waiting a while to get your order,
SPHiatt.comhas some pretty sweet deals too, particularly on
FLCL!
